Goodall

Goodall is a contemporary take on the geometric slab serif genre; bringing together a melting pot of 19th century wood type influences and more contemporary reference points such as Memphis (Dr. Rudolf Wolf, 1929) and Rockwell (Monotype, 1934).
Initial sketches of Goodall were far more gestural and inspired by Vincent Figgins’ Four Line Pica Antique No. 2. Particularly intriguing was Figgins’ peculiar combination of round punctuation and square tittles on characters such as the ‘i’ and ‘j’ — one of the few design features that endured the design process.
Goodall’s open apertures and ink traps improve legibility at smaller sizes, but are balanced with a geometric drawing approach so the forms retain a graphic disposition at larger scales. The italic forms have fewer serifs than the uprights — an idea adapted from classical serif italic models that helps create a variation in texture between the uprights and italics.
Goodall is available in five weights — Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold and Black — all with corresponding true italics. It is available to license in both Standard (‘STD’) and Professional (‘PRO’) versions, the latter containing a range of additional OpenType features and special pictorial glyphs.
